This new year, your physician might be reminding you to schedule a wellness exam, and for good reason! Annual wellness exams with your PCP are important. They establish baselines, catch bad habits and give you a jump start on a healthy new year. But did you know that a check-up with your physical therapist is just as valuable? If you’re not hurting, you might not be thinking about making an appointment your PT, but the benefits are innumerable! Here are just 5 of the reasons to do a wellness check with a physical therapist.
Refocus on YOU
During the holiday season, it’s hard to stop and think about your health! Whether you’re eating too much, lugging heavy gifts, or playing with the grandkids, it can be easy to lose track of how you’re feeling. A wellness check gives you a minute to slow down and listen to the messages your body is sending you.
Identify potential problems
As they say: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Before your body escalates to great pain or injury, it sends warning signs. A hypermobile joint here, a tense muscle there, and you could have a recipe for down-the-road disaster on your hands! Your therapist will be able to find and attend to concerns before they spiral into more painful (and more costly!) long-term problems.
Reduce risk
Your therapist can provide guidance on the risk factors in your life….and motivation to help you fix them! Do you work at a desk all day? Have poor posture or an old injury that never quite healed? Our physical therapists can provide harm reduction strategies to keep you feeling your best.
Build relationships
One of the many things we love about our practice is its intimacy! Omni’s team is small, and we’re proud to provide service with the attentiveness and care that we do. Our unique, one-on-one experience lets us build relationships with our patients- we love getting to know you! Maintaining a strong, familiar relationship with your providers makes your sessions all the more rewarding.
It’s free!
At Omni Therapy, we value the wellness check immensely, so we’ll be offering them for free at our Trends in Happier and Healthier Lifestyles community health awareness event! On February 1st we’ll be hosting talented health professionals who’ll introduce you to both tried and true and new, innovative healthcare strategies, including the very esteemed Reiki Master Teacher Catherine Perry! Short wellness checks and other demonstrations will be available to all attendees- check out our facebook page for details!
